Statistics Sweden's latest report on housing construction in Sweden shows that construction of 20,950 apartments began during the first three quarters of 2023. This represents a decrease of as much as 55 percent compared to the same period in 2022 when 46,533 homes began construction.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Single-family home production is decreasing to the same extent<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Single-family home construction is also affected to a similar extent. The approximately 5,000 apartments that were started during the period are a 50 percent decrease compared to the first three quarters of 2022.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Statistics Sweden also writes in its report that of the housing starts, approximately 15,950 are in apartment buildings. This is 56 percent fewer than in the corresponding period in 2022. The majority of these, 71 percent, are planned to be let as rental apartments.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Biggest decline outside major cities<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The decline affects the entire country \u2013 with a few minor exceptions. The metropolitan regions decrease by 54 percent and the rest of the country but a 65 percent decline. Only the regions of \u00d6rebro (+42 apartments), G\u00e4vleborg (+78 apartments) and J\u00e4mtland (+23 apartments) show increases in the figures for new housing starts. But these marginal increases do not compensate for the loss of new housing starts in the country's other regions.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The white goods market is affected<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The consequences for the white goods market will be amplified in the future. Deliveries to completed homes are still significant, but with this reduction in the start-up of new homes, there will be consequences for member companies' deliveries of typical "construction products" such as stoves\/ovens, kitchen hoods, refrigerators and freezers and dishwashers in the coming years, according to industry representatives.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
