Important information from the Swedish Energy Agency

The products placed on the market before March 1, 2024 The retailer may sell for an unlimited period of time and these may continue to be sold with the energy label that came with the product, but must be in accordance with the latest energy labeling regulation for the product in question.

Products covered by the tightening of ecodesign and not meeting the new ecodesign requirements may be placed on the EU market until February 28, 2024. After that, no products may be placed on the market that do not meet the stricter ecodesign requirements.

However, products that are covered by the tightening and are placed on the market from March 1, 2024 must meet the new ecodesign requirements.

A related matter is Article 11.10 of the Framework Regulation, which specifies what applies to the products covered by the tightening and placed on the market from 1 March 2024.

According to Article 11(10) of the Framework Regulation, the energy classes that are no longer permitted under ecodesign ”shall be shown on the label in grey (…) The label with grey classes shall only be used for new product units placed on the market or put into service.” Part of the text has been deleted because this is not included in the delegated acts. The Energy Agency is currently discussing this but their preliminary interpretation is that the provision means that all product units placed on the market from 1 March 2024 shall have labels showing the energy classes that are no longer permitted in grey.

The term "placing on the market" is defined in the EU's Blue Book. EUR-Lex – 52022XC0629(04) – EN – EUR-Lex (europa.eu)”"”
