Dyson are new members of APPLiA
In 1978, James Dyson became frustrated that his vacuum cleaner was not working properly. He took it apart and discovered that the bag was clogged with dust, reducing its suction power. He had just built an industrial cyclone tower that separated paint particles from the air using centrifugal force. Could he make the same principle work in a vacuum cleaner? Five years and 5,127 prototypes later, he had invented the world's first bagless vacuum cleaner.
Dyson, which moved its headquarters from Malmesbury, England, to Singapore in 2019, now operates in six main areas – vacuum cleaners, hair care, air care, headphones and lighting, and for businesses, hand dryers – and its products are sold in more than 75 countries. In 2016, Dyson was named the fifth best brand in the UK according to the YouGov BrandIndex, ahead of brands such as YouTube and Apple. In 2018, Dyson had more than 12,000 employees – a third of whom are engineers – and they invest heavily in the technology of the future.
