Applia's CEO on 2023 – new year, new and old challenges

The Ox Weeks are in full swing and Applia has kicked off the new business area with a presence at one of the world's largest trade fairs, intensified advocacy work and new approaches to our valued newsletter. For the sake of simplicity, I'm listing a few headlines to keep an eye on in 2023.

Electronics tax
Applia will continue to work for a change in the electronics tax until our goal is met. We will now change our focus slightly and move from a PR effort to a PA effort, which means more direct dialogue with decision-makers and relevant government personnel. Our hope remains that the new government and the Sweden Democrats will keep their previous promises and phase out the tax. We will continue to update you continuously on this work in our communication channels.

New release frequency for AppliaNews
AppliaNytt will transition to a monthly edition from January. The content will be reoriented to more clearly follow Applia Sweden's long-term goals and communication strategy. Every month, you as a reader will of course be able to take advantage of the latest in Applia's operations, fresh statistics, the industry's technical innovations, global monitoring and our advocacy work for the good of the industry.

Investment in new system for market statistics starting in 2024
Together with Applia's sister organizations around the Nordic region, we are now collecting all national and Nordic statistics in a common system.

Digital product passports
Digital product passports are the result of the review of the EU's Ecodesign Directive. The product passports are expected to be introduced in Sweden shortly and aim to increase traceability and facilitate the circular economy. The product passports will be updated throughout the product's entire life cycle and include information on manufacturing, materials and deliveries.

Reuse and recycling
Applia, as owner of El-Kretsen, is now stepping up its recycling efforts to develop opportunities for commercial recycling alongside the regular recycling operations in which El-Kretsen is a world leader.

Important issues at EU level
Applia Europe works together with the national organizations in advocacy on important issues such as the revision of REACH and RoHS, F-gases, reparability index in ECO design, energy efficiency and energy saving, and cybersecurity, all of which in their own way affect our products.
