Changed tax rates / electronics tax

The new tax rates for the electronics tax (which were previously included in the government's budget bill) have now been confirmed by the Swedish Tax Agency and are now available at The Swedish Tax Agency's website. These are calculated using the CPI index and apply from January 1, 2023 for all taxpayers of this excise tax.

The new tax rates:

  • White goods: 12 SEK/kg (previously 11 SEK/kg)
  • Other electronic goods: 181 SEK/kg (previously 166 SEK/kg)
  • Maximum tax amount 497 SEK/item (previously 457 SEK/item)

Increased by 55 percent since introduction

This is an increase of a full 9 percent compared to 2021 and follows the CPI index on which the annual increase in the tax is based. This means that since the introduction of the electronics tax in 2017, the tax has increased by a full 55 percent. No other tax in Sweden has increased by as much in the short time that has passed since its introduction! Also expect a dilution of inflation due to this increase.

The criticism of this Swedish special taxation, which has not contributed to fulfilling the taxs environmental goals, will definitely continue
