Record high sales of the most energy-efficient white goods in 2019! 97.5 percent of all white goods sold in Sweden have energy class A or better!

15.1.2020

The European energy label has helped drive the development of energy-efficient white goods with good results for more than 20 years. 2019 was a new record year for white goods with the highest energy ratings, with manufacturers enabling an increased range of these and Swedish consumers and buyers choosing the most energy-efficient white goods to an even greater extent than before when purchasing. The industry organization APPLiA – Home Appliances Sweden now presents the 2019 sales shares for products in each energy rating. This shows the fact that a full 97.5 percent of the products sold have energy class A or better, both in 2018 and 2019.

Shift towards the most energy-efficient products

What happened in 2019 compared to the previous year is that significantly more A+++ and A++ were sold and fewer A+ and A, there has simply been a sharp shift towards the most energy-efficient products. 59.5 percent A+++/A++ in 2019 compared to 57.2 percent in 2018.

The highest sales in the very best energy classes are in the segments of washing machines, which have increased by 2.5 percent in the very highest A+++ class, and dishwashers, which have increased by a full 5 percent in the two highest energy classes A+++/A++ compared to last year.

– The statistics clearly show that buyers of white goods place great importance on energy labelling and that it means a lot when choosing a product when purchasing. The general trend in white goods sales is that consumers are now increasingly choosing slightly finer, high-performance products that are also more energy efficient, says Kent Oderud, chairman of APPLiA – Home Appliances Sweden.

Energy label update in one year

Energy labeling will change within the EU during the first half of 2021. Among other things, there will be a return to a pure letter scale from A to G, without the possibility of a plus sign.
