The Riksdag votes no to adjustment of the electronics tax

”"First step towards abolishing the electronics tax" - this is how APPLiA Sweden's chairman Kent Oderud comments on the Riksdag's decision to stop the GDP indexation of the electronics tax at the turn of the year.

The Swedish Riksdag decided today, Wednesday, October 26, to reject the previous government's proposal to add a two percent extra index increase to the electronics tax, on top of the already rolling inflation-based annual increase, which this year will likely be close to 10 percent. The Tax Committee's processing of the issue before the decision was made today in the Riksdag is evident from a parallel article here in today's APPLiAnytt.

— The supporting documents for the Riksdag's decision show that all founding parties in the government, including the Centre Party, stand behind the decision and that they also strongly question the existence of the electronics tax as it has proven ineffective in achieving environmental goals, says Kent Oderud.

— The political majority refers to the fact that these issues regarding flame retardants in electronics are resolved most effectively within the framework of the EU regulations that regulate the use of chemicals and not with national special taxation, he continues.

— Sweden should now take the lead in this work when our presidency of the EU begins in just over two months, concludes Kent Oderud.
