Thousands of dangerous products stopped – APPLiA works for safe and sustainable products
The Swedish Chemicals Agency reports that thousands of products containing hazardous chemicals were stopped at Sweden's border in 2023. These products included electronics, jewelry and pesticides. APPLiA members have long worked to improve the environmental performance of products and comply with chemical legislation such as REACH* and RoHS**, which phase out hazardous chemicals from everyday products.
Market surveillance is extremely important for the responsible authorities to carry out continuously, which we at APPLiA support as it maintains competition on a level playing field. APPLiA works to ensure that legislation on the use of chemicals at both EU and global level is harmonised and clear. We strive to avoid national specific regulations that can create unnecessary costs and delays for production, while maintaining focus on reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable solutions through eco-design and energy labelling.
For APPLiA member companies, it is of utmost importance that the products that reach the market are safe for both users and the environment. This means that we continuously work to be at the forefront of sustainability issues and chemical control.
