Study: Vacuuming is good for your health

A new scientific study confirms that vacuuming is good for both physical and mental health. For those over 65, housework can be equated to a workout and improves short-term memory, fitness and leg muscles.

For those who avoid vacuuming for the longest time, it may be time to think again…TV4 recently reported in connection with the presentation of a scientific study from BMJ Journals. The study concludes that housework, such as vacuuming, contains two important factors for healthy aging, meaning and movement. Regardless of income level, more housework was linked to a reduction in mortality and cardiovascular disease. Time to get out the vacuum cleaner, in other words!

We already know that exercise and leisure activities are good for us and our physical and cognitive abilities. However, few studies have previously examined the independent effects of non-leisure activities, such as housework, and linked them to the loss of functional abilities with increasing age. An aging world population and increased life expectancy create a greater need for strategies to promote healthy aging.
