Beloved sports holidays

The sports holiday weeks are here and with that in mind, we've delved deep into the mountain world. What kind of kitchen equipment is most in demand at cabin rental company Skistar? And do all cabins have waffle irons?

A day on the ski slopes or cross-country trails is hard to beat. It's just as wonderful to return to the cabin, warm up in a sauna and cook a delicious stew after a day in the fresh air. We delved into the mountain world's kitchens and their equipment together with Petra Hallebrant, Communications and Sustainability Director, Skistar.

What do your customers most commonly request to be included in the cabins?
”"Wood stoves and saunas are by far the most common, in terms of selectable search criteria."”

Are drying cabinets and ski boot warmers in demand?
”"From a guest perspective, drying cabinets have come to be considered a hygiene factor. Ski boot dryers are more uncommon, often due to lack of space in the halls."”

What equipment would you most like to have in the kitchen?
”"Dishwasher, microwave and traditional oven (i.e. a fully equipped kitchen) are high on the list. When it comes to small electronics, coffee makers and kettles are of course obvious requests. Ten years ago, electric whisks or mixers were also more frequently requested."”

What percentage of your cabins would you say have waffle irons?
”A large proportion!”

Do you see any trend over time?
”"In recent years, the electric whisk/blender has come as a direct request from more and more guests. The trend has been clear, Swedes cook more, better and more enjoyable food in line with the trend and interest in cooking in general. So you expect fully equipped kitchens, equipped like at home even in the mountains. Guests are asking for larger wine glasses, better knives, etc."”

What else is at the top of the list when it comes to kitchen equipment?
”A fun request around Christmas is usually a ham thermometer.”
