APPLiA market continues to decline in August

In August, the APPLiA market continued to decline, with a loss of just over 13 percent compared to the same period last year. A correction of the SDA figures in APPstat for July showed an increase of 7.5 percent instead of the previous minus 19 percent.

Sell-in values are reported for August that are below the corresponding month last year. This means that the APPLiA market for white goods (MDA) and household appliances (SDA) continues to decline and is now, after the past eight months of the year, down by just over 13 percent in value compared to the same period last year.

Major Appliances (MDA) Drops in August

Compared to the previous year, the August result for the heavier white goods in terms of value is down 17.9 percent. The corresponding figure in terms of quantity is 16.1 percent. It is fairly evenly distributed between the product segments included in MDA, but refrigerators and freezers within "cooling" and microwave ovens have been affected the most. The "cooking" product segment with stoves, ovens and hobs is also losing volume.

Household appliances (SDA) lose value but maintain volume

During the month of August, the value for SDA fell by just over 28 percent compared to August 2023. Accumulated for SDA, the value is minus 11 percent. The big difference lies in the volume development, where the smaller household appliances in several product segments are holding their positions compared to the previous year. In total, for all product segments within SDA in 2024, the number of products sold in the SDA mix is just under one percent increase.

Corrected July figures

A correction to the SDA figures (small household appliances) has been made in APPstat during July:

The correction resulted in an overall industry result for July almost in line with the corresponding month last year, with a minus 0.4 percent. The previously reported figure was minus 9.1 percent.

From minus to plus results for household appliances (SDA)

The market figures for household appliances (SDA) have been corrected for the month of July. After the correction, the monthly figure turned into a plus of 7.5 percent instead of the previously reported minus 19 percent. This also improved the accumulated value for SDA. The figures for the heavier white goods (MDA) have not been affected by the correction.
