2022 starts positively for the industry
According to figures from January's sales, APPLiAnytt can conclude that 2022 is off to a slightly positive start! Advanced coffee and espresso machines are particularly visible in SDA sales along with a more expensive segment of vacuum cleaners.
The industry starts 2022 slightly positively
With a combined value growth of plus half a percent over last year, the year for the white goods and household appliance industry starts in January 2022. Everything is presented in a new updated presentation form here in APPLiAnytt. The monthly curve above is filled in for each month and provides the opportunity to visually get an idea of the development compared to previous years.
The pandemic boost to the market that characterized the previous two years is now starting to enter a more 'normal' state - albeit at a high level. A trend that remains is the demand for more advanced products, which provide a higher average price and a value increase that continues to exceed the volume development in the market.
MDA is tough on
The industry's two major segments, MDA (major appliances) and SDA (household appliances), went in slightly different directions in January: For MDA, strong combined sales of dishwashers and range hoods pushed the figure up to just over 1 percent. The washer and dryer segment also showed positive figures and contributed to the increase in January.
The two subcategories that 'bubbled' the most in the month were combined washer/dryers and large refrigerators with 'multiple doors', which increased volumes by a full 27 and 37 percent respectively over January last year.
SDA brakes gently
For SDA, the result for the month was a slight minus (-1.4%) compared to January last year. However, compared to January 2020, it is an increase of almost 2 percent.
As with MDA, the value development is being driven by a demand for a product mix of higher-performance and more expensive products. This is particularly visible in the 'coffee machines' segment (where advanced espresso machines and filter machines are increasing disproportionately) as well as in the 'vacuum cleaners' segment where high-performance stick vacuums, robotic vacuums and traditional floor vacuums are all increasing average values. Is there a proper spring cleaning underway in Swedish homes?
