Statistics Sweden: Number of housing starts is falling
In Sweden, construction of 43,750 homes began during the first three quarters of the year, which is nine percent lower compared to the same period in 2021. Compared to 2020, it is still a higher outcome - then 39,930 homes in multi-family buildings and single-family homes were started.
SCB writes in its press release that "a"Of the apartments started, approximately 34,200 are in apartment buildings. This is 9 percent fewer than during the corresponding period in 2021. Preliminary, approximately 62 percent of these were leased as rental apartments. Approximately 9,550 apartments were started in single-family homes during the period, which is also a decrease of 9 percent compared to the first three quarters of 2021."”

Södermanland is tough on
The regions that are pulling down the figure are mainly Greater Stockholm, Skåne, Gävleborg and Jönköping County. The regions that, on the contrary, are showing substantial increases in housing starts compared to 2021 are Södermanland, Kronoberg, Värmland and Västmanland.
