Mother's Day is coming soon.

Mother's Day is a holiday when children celebrate their mothers, but also a commercial holiday that was established in Sweden in 1919 at the initiative of the author Cecilia Bååth-Holmberg, following the American model.

The last Sunday in May honors all mothers and, like Father's Day, this day is typical of the emerging welfare society during the 20th century, when several public holidays were created.

In a small booklet called "Mother's Day" published in 1920, there were a number of instructions for how the day could be celebrated:

1. The Swedish flag is hoisted from the home flagpole.
2. Mother is greeted in the morning with singing by the children.
3. Before the ascension, she is offered good coffee and bread, prepared by the children. She is honored with flowers and a small gift.
4. She is given, as far as possible, rest and freedom from all household work that day. The children make the bed, sweep, cook and wash the dishes.
5. At afternoon coffee or in the evening, a small ceremony is held, in which the father of the house participates.
6. Absent children greet Mother with a letter or telegram or postcard, specially made and provided for Mother's Day.

This year, we suggest celebrating Mother's Day with homemade cakes and perhaps a small gift from the household appliance segment, of course tailored to the recipient's interests.
