Housewives' tricks for more environmentally friendly cleaning
Today, several of our members sell smart alternatives in the form of self-cleaning products to make everyday life easier, but many still require manual intervention. Here, APPLiA offers tips on smart housewives' tricks and environmentally friendly products that are already in the kitchen, such as vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and soap.
The refrigerator
In 1972, the American company launched Arm & Hammer a campaign that promoted the idea of putting baking soda in the fridge and freezer to combat bad odors, and the trick works! Put a bowl of baking soda in the fridge and note when you put it in, the baking soda is effective for up to three months before the contents need to be replaced. For an immediate effect, you can mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a liter of warm water and wipe walls, doors and shelves with it.
The stove
A stovetop, regular and induction, is best wiped down after each use to make cleaning easier. But when food has burned onto the stove, it can be easily cleaned with a mixture of water, bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, and granulated sugar. Mix 3 dl of warm water with 1 decilitre of vinegar and 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate. Spray the mixture generously on the stovetop and let it work. Wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Dampen any remaining stains and scrub gently with granulated sugar, wipe down and you have a sparkling clean stove!
The oven
A self-cleaning oven prevents many power outages and makes cleaning easier. But if you are left with an oven without self-cleaning, there is more than one good trick to use, one of which is soap, because it is known that fat dissolves fat. Therefore, mix 2 deciliters of soap with 1 deciliter of water and spray the inside of the oven, heat it to 100 degrees for 20 minutes and let it cool before wiping it with a damp cloth.
APPLiAnytt always recommends that you read the manuals and instructions for each product before cleaning. Products such as vinegar are corrosive and should be handled with care and a pair of gloves.
