Coffee inspiration and trends 2022

Cold brew and South Korean Dalgona Coffee are just a few of the strong coffee trends that have emerged in recent years, but what do the trends say for 2022? APPLiAnytt has also taken a look at members Moccamaster and Melitta to get some coffee inspiration.

The market for coffee machines received a major boost during the pandemic period, according to previously published statistics from APPLiA. In 2020, sales of all types of coffee machines reached record highs with a 35 percent increase in value, with advanced coffee machines increasing the most.

  • In Sweden, just over 600,000 household filter coffee makers were sold in 2021. The share of filter coffee makers among all different types of coffee machines is slightly lower than in 2020, but still accounts for 73 percent of all different types of coffee machines. The categories of automatic espresso machines and pod/capsule machines are the ones that are taking the most share, says Kent Oderud, chairman of APPLiA.

Some coffee trends in 2022

The coffee industry is bigger than ever and is constantly changing, trends come and go, but some stay longer than others!

According to several sources, society's great focus on health will affect our coffee drinking in 2022, this year we will, according to several sources, put more focus on the content of coffee, such as mushroom coffee and coffee with added vitamins and minerals. Of course, plant-based milk will continue to be a trend.

Cold coffee has been wildly popular for several years, but a new trend that is expected to be especially big this year is Snapchilled Coffee, which is immediately cooled after brewing in a lightning-fast process. This new method makes the coffee taste as fresh as if it were freshly brewed, but cold.

A younger and more aware generation means that more people will demand sustainable and organic coffee in the future. Today, more people want to know where the coffee comes from, how it is grown, and the wages and living conditions of the coffee farmers.

We continue to brew at home

Figures from NCSA (National Coffee Association USA) confirm APPLiA's statistics and also indicate that we continue to brew our coffee at home in traditional ways. But how do you actually brew the perfect coffee? Here writes Moccamaster Everything you need to know to make a perfect cup!

One method that never seems to lose popularity is the manual brewing method. Pour over has been trending strongly among coffee enthusiasts in recent years, but the method itself is actually over 110 years old! One afternoon, a lady named Melitta Bentz was dissatisfied with the bitter coffee she got from her percolator. She began experimenting with a brass container and in 1908 she patented her invention and thus the coffee filter as we know it today was invented! Today, our members Melitta sell several accessories for manual brewing and on their website they also give tips on how to make the best Pour over coffee.
