Lie in the hammock and let the robots do the work
We are not yet quite as far along in reality as in Isaac Asimov's "I, Robot" (nine short stories connected into a novel, written in the 1940s and set from 1998 to 2052), but we have access to two robots that can make our lives easier – the robot vacuum cleaner and the robot lawnmower.
Robots, AI (Artificial Intelligence), IoT (Internet of Things), connectivity and smart homes – developments are moving forward and much of it is about making life easier for us humans, and giving us more time to do what we want instead of what we have to. Today, we have the opportunity to purchase a variety of products that can give us more free time, if we use them correctly.
When summer is here, it's not such a bad idea to lie down in a hammock with a book, and if you can't disconnect from everyday life completely, you can at least reduce the time it takes up in various ways. Via your mobile phone, you can keep track of and to some extent manage both laundry and cooking, with connected appliances, apps and accessories.
When it comes to robots, there are – so far – basically only two variants that have made a big splash, and they have wheels instead of legs – the robot vacuum cleaner and the robot lawn mower.
The robot vacuum cleaner
Electrolux was the first to introduce robotic vacuum cleaners, demonstrating a model on a BBC TV programme as early as 1997. In 2001, Electrolux launched its Trilobite robotic vacuum cleaner on the commercial market, and in 2015 the robotic vacuum cleaner was named This year's Christmas gift by HUI Research.
If you search for robot vacuum cleaners on PriceSpy.com, you will find 396 products, and if you filter out products from non-APPLiA member companies, the three most popular are Electrolux Pure i9.2, Samsung JetBot 90 AI+ and Severin Chill RB7025.
If you search in the same way on Pricerunner.se, you will find 200+ products, and the three most popular are Severin Chill RB7025, Electrolux Pure i9.2 and Samsung JetBot 90 AI+.
So it is the same three products that are most popular on the two price comparison websites, albeit in different orders, and they are in three completely different price ranges – just over a thousand Swedish kronor, five thousand Swedish kronor and ten thousand Swedish kronor.
Pioneers Electrolux are still in the game, and they are also the only ones offering consumers the option of renting a robot vacuum cleaner, instead of buying one. For 79-269 SEK per month (depending on the size of the home and how many times per month the robot vacuum cleaner will clean), you can rent an Electrolux Pure i9.2.
More information about renting a robot vacuum cleaner from Electrolux, which more than 3,000 people have done so far according to the Electrolux website, can be found here. here.
The robotic lawnmower
Husqvarna was the first to launch a robotic lawnmower, when they introduced the Solar Mower in 1995, which, using solar energy, had enough power to drive both the cutting system and wheels. In 1998, Husqvarna released its first AutoMower, which was equipped with a rechargeable battery to enable 24/7 mowing. By 2017, Husqvarna had manufactured one million robotic lawnmowers, and even today, one model series is called Automower.
