ARN: Rust in washing machine – free remediation
The customer purchased a top-loading washing machine with a 1-year warranty in October 2019. Due to shipping damage to the lid, the product was not put into use until January 2020. In November 2020, rust was discovered on the replaced lid.
The customer has received a cost estimate of SEK 2,004, as the company believes it was a handling error. The customer is requesting free remediation.
The seller states that rust that occurs after 1 year is most likely due to handling when the machine has not been cleaned correctly or as a result of chemical reactions of any cleaning agent or other substance that has been used. In this individual case, it is unclear how the rust occurred, but it is clear that the rust was not present upon delivery.
Based on the documents in the case, ARN concludes that the nature of the error indicates an administrative error.
ARN rejects the customer's claim.
