Blue and yellow – a highly relevant color

The colors yellow and blue are very popular these days. In this week's APPLiAnytt, we have looked at what the colors mean for human well-being and how well they are reflected in interior design and products in our industry.

Why is it Swedish yellow and blue?

In addition to the Ukrainian flag in yellow and blue, which is currently being hoisted in support of the Ukrainian people, Swedish Flag Day is also approaching. National Day now falls on Monday, June 6. The color scheme of the Swedish flag and its appearance find their origin in the blue-yellow coat of arms of the Folkunga family and the old national coat of arms with a blue background and three crowns created by Albreckt of Mecklenburg. During the 16th century, these colors will then be combined into a blue-yellow cross flag by Karl Knutsson Bonde.

Important base colors

Those who know about colors and how we are affected by them in our environment can tell you that these two colors are so-called basic colors (primary colors). There are 3 of these in number and these cannot be mixed with any other colors. They are yellow, blue and red. In addition to these, we also have white and black. All other colors can in theory be mixed with these basic colors.

How do colors affect us as humans?

If we now use these two current colors in interior design and architecture - how will they affect us humans and where does each color fit best? Let's look at some examples:

Yellow as an interior color gives self-confidence

The color yellow represents energy, joy, and warning. This kitchen above with built-in appliances looks really nice anyway, so no 'warning' is needed.

Positively: Yellow makes you enthusiastic and gives you confidence.

Negative: Too much yellow can create stress and it is best to avoid it in the bedroom. It is said that babies cry more in yellow rooms.

Best suited for: Kitchen and bathroom.

Blue as an interior color makes you successful

The color blue represents calm, intelligence and protection. Blue was seen in many older classic kitchens as early as the 1950s and has recently experienced a strong comeback in a more modern but darker shade.

Positively: The positive thing about blue is that the color can make you more successful. It has been shown that students who took exams in a blue room scored higher.

Negative: The downside to blue is that it can be too much. Too much blue can be perceived as cold and make people feel unwelcome. Instead, create balance by mixing blue with warm tones.

Best suited for: Bedroom and office

Are there household appliances in yellow and blue?

Of course, is the given answer to that question! It is a given, however, that most household appliances sold on the market are white or stainless steel, but APPLiAnytt will show some examples of how the two current colors are found on some industry products:

Blue and yellow kitchen hoods

Blue and yellow refrigerators and freezers

Even within the product segment refrigerators and freezers there is today a wide range of colorful 'white goods'. Above you can see some examples from SMEG from the FAB series. Blue and yellowest of all

Perhaps the most Swedish blue/yellow is found in Ankarsrum's classic kitchen assistants, which are available in about fifteen different colors, but of course also in Sunbeam Yellow and Ocean Blue. These are produced in Sweden and have been since 1940. Each assistant is carefully tested before it leaves the factory.

Sunbeam Yellow is a warm and deep yellow color that shines like the sun's rays. The color has a matte finish. Ocean Blue has a high-gloss and sparkling rich blue color. Both are perfect for baking for our National Day! Read more here
