A weak start to the year for white goods

This month's short market report from APPLiA shows that the first sell-in month of the year started tough for white goods on the Swedish market. Smaller household appliances are doing better at the beginning of the year compared to the same month in 2025.

The two main segments (TOTAL above) are after the first month of the year almost 8 percent below the corresponding month last year in terms of value. MDA loses 11 percent compared to January 2025, but SDA pulls up the total figure slightly with its plus 2.1 percent for the month.

MDA shows a steady decline across all sub-segments and nothing stands out from the total. The increase for SDA is driven by two sub-categories – partly ”Kitchen Machines” (Kitchen Machines/Assistants/Food Processors) in all size classes and ”FloorCare” (vacuum cleaners), mainly traditional cylinder vacuum cleaners with bags. This is while, for example, coffee machines show a worse development during the month.
