Grilling season is here!

Finally, the grilling season is here! In this theme issue of APPLiAnytt, we have gone over the glowing coals to find out which electric grills are on the market and other things that belong to this long-awaited season. Did you know that interest in electric contact grills has increased during the pandemic? Here are the spring starters and we'll see you at the table!

Electric contact grills have increased sales in Sweden by more than 45 percent in terms of number in 2021, according to current statistics from the industry organization APPLiA. This type of grill offers convenient grilling opportunities on patios and balconies. For the real enthusiast, it is actually possible to grill indoors all year round.

But for many, spring and warmth mean that the grilling season is underway. Is there anything more wonderful than leaning against a sun-warmed wall at this time of year while the aroma of freshly grilled food begins to spread? Vegetables, hamburgers, sausages, cheese and meat taste better when cooked on the grill and at this early stage of the season when asparagus and other spring firsts are finally back, it is wonderful to thank potatoes, carrots, beets and onions for the winter as seeds for their more brittle friends.

Spring's resilient first-ripe vegetables haven't got the tougher skins of autumn, and it's usually enough to brush or wash them before eating. However you choose to cook them, on the grill or on the stove, don't cook them for too long. A quick dip in boiling water or blanching are excellent cooking methods. A little olive oil, flaked salt and freshly ground black pepper are fine as seasoning.

Also remember to use the tops of the spring first fruits. Throw them in the blender with a little oil, nuts, garlic, a tasty cheese and fresh herbs and you have a delicious pesto to serve with the grill.
