New housing construction started in 2025

Statistics Sweden recently published a report on the number of apartment starts in 2025 and can show an increase of 11 percent compared to 2024. The increase comes after substantial declines in the number of apartment starts in the years 2022-2024.

The number of apartments reported is 30,250 apartments in 2025. This can then be compared with 27,173 the year before.

From the Statistics Sweden report we can further read:

”"Of the apartments started, approximately 24,350 are in apartment buildings, including special housing. This is 12 percent more than in 2024. Preliminary, approximately 67 percent are rental apartments, which can be compared with 72 percent for 2024. Approximately 5,900 apartments were started in single-family homes, which is 8 percent more than in 2024."”
