Pizza ovens – a trend for more and more people
Pizza ovens became popular during the pandemic, and interest is still alive and sales are increasing. The range is now both large and varied.
You can make your pizza at home in many different ways, for example in a regular oven or on your grill, in both cases a pizza stone is recommended. Now you can also get a special pizza oven, which comes in a variety of different variants and price ranges.
At first, the most common option was to build our own wood-fired pizza ovens next to the patio. Then, gas-fired pizza ovens were launched, which made it much easier to get your own pizza oven. Then models appeared that burned coal and pellets, and now finally, the latest trend, electric pizza ovens, have been launched on the market.
After young adults in particular have been at the forefront of the very strong sales of pizza ovens in recent years, Pia Törnström, Own Brand Manager at NetOnNet, believes that pizza ovens are now ready to be embraced by new and larger consumer groups. NetOnNet's figures show that interest in pizza grills is increasing among the Swedish population at large. Pia Törnström also believes that it is the new electric pizza grill for the season that will attract even more people to bake their own pizza at home this year.
– With a pizza oven, you can make pizza at home that surpasses the local pizzeria. The high heat and pizza stone mean that you can achieve perfect results every time. On the patio, the pizza oven has become a nice gathering point when we invite family and friends for a delicious, shared meal. Now even those who live in apartments can grill pizza at home on the balcony using the electric pizza oven. Despite the almost improbable growth during the pandemic, growth continued last year and looks set to grow even further this year. We also see that while previously it was the most expensive pizza ovens that sold the most, sales are now benefiting from the fact that there are good pizza ovens in all price ranges, says Pia Törnström.
A new player
Wilfa is a player that has recently entered the market for pizza ovens, launching their first two models in mid-May this year, with a size of 13 and 16 inches, respectively, which are powered by gas and can be heated up to 500 degrees.
According to Wilfa, their pizza ovens have the fastest heating time on the market at 12–15 minutes, and with an insulating layer of ceramic wool, they also retain heat very well, which is especially important when baking several pizzas.
Pizza in the conventional oven
As mentioned, it is possible to bake pizza in a regular oven as well, and many suppliers offer pizza stones as accessories for their ovens. There are also ovens where the temperature can reach higher than the 250°C that is the maximum on many ovens. Gorenje For example, has several ovens with pizza function, with temperatures of up to 300°C.
