Red gift for Valentine's Day?
Ahead of Valentine's Day, where everything is shrouded in a haze of red in the form of hearts, roses and red chocolate boxes, one wonders whether red appliances in particular have any significance for us Swedes in the market.
APPLiAnytt took a closer look at a survey conducted by Novus, commissioned by Indiska, where approximately 1,000 people were asked how they want Christmas (and other red holidays) to look in their homes. When it comes to how they want decorations and interior details to look, the red and white Christmas dominates with 64 percent.
The survey shows no major differences in opinion between men and women. However, more people prefer red interior details in rural areas than in big cities. The popularity of red interior design also increases with age and whether you live in Western Sweden or Northern Sweden.
Red appliances – do they exist?
They exist! And they were widely available in the colorful 1970s when almost exclusively ruby red stoves were sold alongside a full range of white goods, stoves, fridges and freezers in shiny avocado green, lion yellow and "farmhouse brown"! These fashion colors stayed in style until the early 80s when the neutral white color took over completely and 'white goods' really became WHITE goods.
Now we are seeing a rebirth of the red shades in both kitchen design, white goods and household appliances, but significantly fresher than the moccasin colors of the 70s!
Red for Valentine's Day? YES!
Is it time to skip the red box of chocolates or the wilting red roses for Valentine's Day and instead focus on something permanent as this year's red love gift? Why not something from our little package above in the picture? A red "heart stove" from Bertazzoni maybe? As a curiosity, the stove is painted in the same color/varnish as your Ferrari in the garage. Or the classic food processor from KitchenAid, which has an average lifespan of 30 years. Or how about a shiny red refrigerator in classic 50s style from SMEG? There are hardly any more lasting and appreciated Valentine's Day gifts? Or why not be really brave and invest in a complete kitchen in signal red? You will be considered a trendsetter!

Young gift tips
Would you like to become popular with children and/or grandchildren with a cool gift for Valentine's Day, there is a fun range of toy vacuum cleaners – many of them in red of course – on the market! A really good gift that provides hours of play and a habit of handling one of the most important appliances in the home in the future. On the website of the Technical Museum we can read; "According to a survey conducted by the company Electrolux a number of years ago, we buy a new vacuum cleaner within 24 hours of the old one breaking down — so dependent are we on that innovation today". So it's just as well to start early!
Happy Valentine's Day!
