Tasty innovations for coffee lovers

Fully automatic coffee machines with replaceable bean containers or double bean containers, capsule machines with a dual extraction system and espresso machines for both hot and cold drinks, as well as the world's smallest coffee maker approved by ECBC - these are some of the recent innovations in the coffee segment.

Double bean containers

Around the turn of the year, Siemens launched the EQ900, a fully automatic espresso machine with dual bean containers, which also means that you can always have your favorite coffee beans in one bean container while you can try new coffee beans in the other.

A single coffee bean actually consists of more than 800 different aromas, so there is much to explore in the world of coffee, Siemens states, and explains that taking advantage of the coffee's individual flavor composition was the starting point when Siemens coffee experts developed the new EQ900.

According to Siemens, the baristaMode function is the heart of the espresso machine and allows coffee lovers to adjust and experiment with the brewing parameters based on their individual taste and preference. It is possible to experiment with the amount of water and coffee, grind size, amount of milk, as well as contact time and brewing temperature.

EQ900 can be controlled based on individual preferences – via the touchscreen, the app or through voice control.

Hand-built coffee grinder

Moccamaster announced this summer that its new, hand-built KM5 Burr Grinder features a powerful, direct-drive motor that is quiet and efficient, grinding 60 grams of coffee in less than 30 seconds. The grinder is equipped with a static-reducing nozzle, creating a clean grinding experience.

The stepless regulator allows fine adjustment of the 50 mm flat discs made of hardened steel, which should guarantee uniform grinding in exactly the size needed for different brewing methods.

The Moccamaster KM5 coffee grinder is one of the few grinders approved by the European Coffee Brewing Centre, the company states, and says that the quality and consistency of the grind guarantees perfect extraction.

The design is in the same style as Moccamaster's well-known coffee maker.

Espresso with double capsules

On July 20, 2023 – the same date that man first landed on the moon in 1969 – LG Labs launched its first espresso machine, Duobo, designed like a lunar lander.

Duobo is equipped with a double extraction system, which means that you can use two capsules at the same time and thus directly make a double espresso - and by using two different capsules you can create a variety of different flavors in your coffee.

The product is compatible with coffee capsules from different brands as long as they have the same size and shape as Nespresso capsules and via the Duobo app you can adjust the temperature and pressure, according to your individual preferences.

Duobo has an integrated full HD screen, positioned where the coffee cups are placed during the extraction process, and it is there to give users access to a variety of engaging content such as exclusive animations and coffee-related information, the company states.

LG Labs Duobo is available for crowdfunding on Kickstarter starting July 20th, priced between $399-$499 depending on how quickly you order. More information at www.official-duobo.com.

LG Labs is LG's new marketing platform, established to deliver experimental and innovative product and service experiences to its customers.

A trio with Cold Brew

Summer is over, but cold brew coffee is still a strong trend, announces Italian company De'Longhi, which has launched the La Specialista Arte Evo coffee machine so that more people can easily become their own baristas and enjoy both hot and cold brewed coffee, also called Cold Brew.

De'Longhi says that their Cold Extraction technology allows the user to brew Cold Brew in under five minutes, while it is usually done by letting ground coffee beans steep in cold water for up to 24 hours.

– Cold Brew has a smoother and milder taste than traditional coffee, so it is perhaps not surprising that it has become more popular and appreciated by a younger target group who are just starting to drink coffee. When trying it for the first time, many experience an ”aha” moment, as it really opens up a whole new coffee experience, says Victoria Avén, Product Marketing Manager at De'Longhi Scandinavia.

Many people often confuse Cold Brew with iced coffee, De'Longhi says, explaining that the two beverages are night and day when it comes to their brewing methods and taste sensations. Iced coffee is traditionally hot-brewed coffee served over ice. Cold Brew, on the other hand, is not exposed to heat during brewing, resulting in a smoother, sweeter taste that is less acidic and bitter. Additionally, Cold Brew can last up to ten days in the refrigerator, unlike iced coffee, which is best enjoyed right away, according to the company.

The La Specialista Arte Evo is De'Longhi's third coffee machine with Cold Brew, after the fully automatic Eletta Explore which was launched in March this year and the semi-automatic (also called Bean-to-Cup manual) La Specialista Maestro which came out in April.

Replaceable bean containers

With a new way to easily test different beans, a user-friendly display and a stylish design, De'Longhi has launched Rivelia as the ultimate coffee machine for consumers looking to switch to a new coffee experience.

With today's endless variety of coffee beans on the market, from light roast to extra dark roast, unique blends and different origins, choosing the right bean is an art in itself, the company says, and explains that Rivelia makes it possible to switch between different coffee beans with the Bean Switch System, where the user decides whether the remaining beans in the machine should be used to brew another cup or grind and empty, to switch to another bean.

Two bean containers are included, allowing users to easily explore different beans.

Rivelia is equipped with Bean Adapt Technology, which helps set the correct parameters for temperature, grinding and intensity, based on the specific bean and roast to be used. The user can save settings for up to six different coffee beans in the machine.

The De'Longhi Rivelia is available in two different versions, one with manual milk frothing while the other has LatteCrema Hot Technology, which according to the company will provide perfect milk froth with both milk and plant-based options.

Espresso machine in six colors

The new semi-automatic espresso machine from Smeg (EGF03) has a softly rounded design and is available in six colours that match the company's other kitchen products and appliances in the 50 style retro series. It is equipped with a built-in grinder with conical stainless steel discs, which ensures a uniform grind to highlight every aroma, and is equipped with a double heating system, which means that the steam function is ready immediately after brewing, without any waiting time for milk frothing.

A built-in pressure gauge means you can check if the coffee is being extracted at the right pressure, which is crucial for achieving the best coffee taste. You can choose between four different pre-infusion profiles (short, standard, long or progressive) and set the extraction temperature in four different levels, so that every espresso is exactly how you want it.

– In developing Smeg's new coffee machines, inspiration, technology and experience have been drawn from La Pavoni, which was acquired by Smeg in 2019 and is the world's oldest manufacturer of espresso machines. We place great importance on maintaining the core of La Pavoni as a separate brand that produces handmade machines for a coffee consumer who is looking for products that are a little more advanced than the more accessible products from Smeg, says Kajsa Djurfeldt, Trade Marketing & PR Manager at Smeg, and explains that on October 20, Smeg went Live with "House of Coffee" in the Nordic market.

Smeg's House of Coffee will serve as a platform where coffee enthusiasts can explore new brewing methods, discover new coffee varieties and exchange expertise within the coffee world.

Upgraded entry-level model

De'Longhi launched the Magnifica Start espresso machine last year, and now comes an upgraded model called the Magnifica Start Milk, which is equipped with the company's automatic milk frothing function LatteCrema Hot Technology.

With the launch of the new Magnifica Start Milk, De'Longhi offers 16 different models of fully automatic espresso machines, in different price points and with different functionality and design. De'Longhi states that the Magnifica product range is created to guide curious coffee enthusiasts into the world of automatic espresso machines, that it has 13 grinding settings, a bean container that holds 250 grams, soft touch buttons and easy cleaning.

The world's smallest ECBC-approved brewer

Wilfa has presented the Performance Compact, as the world's smallest coffee maker approved by the ECBC (European Coffee Brewing Centre), which sets requirements for, among other things, water temperature and contact time.

The Performance Compact coffee maker is designed to fit on any kitchen counter with its compact size of just 20 × 22 cm, Wilfa states, and says that the model will appear in stores shortly.

The coffee maker is equipped with a removable one-liter water tank, which is as easy to fill as it is to clean, Wilfa announces, and explains that thanks to the company's unique water pump technology, the Performance Compact machine completely empties the water with each brew, ensuring that you always brew your coffee with fresh, oxygen-rich and clean water.
