”About the same as last year…”
That's a comment we're now hearing among member companies after the May figures were compiled within the APPLiA industry. And we can only agree, as the market figures in terms of value after five months are now creeping closer to last year's outcome with each passing month.

”More is needed for a lift…”
The Swedish market for white goods and household appliances will be characterized by a certain restraint in 2026, with mainly necessity purchases now made of, for example, refrigerators and coffee machines. White goods are necessary products that are difficult to do without in everyday life and are usually replaced or repaired when they are too old or malfunction. This provides a strong basis for market development, but more is needed for sales to take off.
What is needed for an expanding return to the market values that prevailed before and after the pandemic is an increased production of new housing, resumed renovation activity in, among other things, public utilities, and a more secure consumption situation for households. When, in addition, the unsustainable Swedish electronics tax makes most white goods almost 700 kronor/product more expensive than in our neighboring countries, the propensity to invest in new energy-efficient white goods among consumers decreases and Swedish trade loses jobs.

”About the same as last year…”
The same expression "...as last year" also applies to the presented market figures in terms of value for the two major main segments, white goods (MDA) and household appliances (SDA), which make up the APPLiA market.
For white goods, we are approaching last year's result and are now 3 percent behind last year's result in cumulative terms. It is primarily positive figures for the product categories WASHING MACHINES and DRYERS that are lifting the monthly figure for the entire segment.
Household appliances are barely above last year's accumulated value (+0.8%). Here, several product categories help raise the figure above last year's level - including the FLOOR, FABRIC and PERSONAL-CARE categories. Among the "OTHER" category, it is not surprising that fans and air conditioning are booming seasonally.
